14 Aug., 2009 -- So, it's NOT just about airplanes...

So... Harley, Yamaha, Suzuki... and whatever other brands there may be out there...
The war rages on, engines, whitewalls, fuel gauges, mufflers, pegs, running boards, studs, seat cushions, dollars, horsepower, how your tail end feels at the tail end of the day...

Hey, argument over, I'm going home! (It really WAS friendly, folks)

Another glorious August day in the Ozarks. Sonic boom (two of them) this morning. Couldn't see any contrails, not enough moisture in the air, but I could hear the planes heading north northwest. They're not supposed to do that over the continental US. Tsk tsk.

23 Aug., 2009 -- Cool, clear... it's really August?

Sunday morning in August... who'da thunk it could be so cool and clear (well, it was clear earlier). John returning from a jaunt to Willow Springs.

1946 V-tail Bonanza came in from West Plains.

22 Aug., 2009 -- Work (ok, it's flying); flowers (ok, it's work)

Bootheel this morning, clouds obeyed and stayed away.
These were more interesting than the usual test plots;
these canals run for miles down the center of the bootheel
into Arkansas.

Closer I got to home, the more clouds. Mtn. View is closed, excavation going on.

So, out mowing (the "work" part), there's this spike of yellow
where it shouldn't be, where I've mowed and sprayed before.
Oh, well... stop and smell the roses, you know.

They aren't roses, but they are bright, with such elegant leaves.

Now, I was out shooting the new moon, and noticed this busy spidey under our new roof.
So busy, just a blur. I wanted a Halloween pic with the spider against the bright moon, but it didn't work out. Use your imagination.

Sequence of the night blooming cereus! Just a bud... then a fat bud with a little flare...
then a fat blossom I wish you could smell it we could be in Hawaii...

21 Aug., 2009 -- Done, and gone

I know you can't see him, but there's Jerry, our
old friend 150 pilot, leaving on his motorcycle; well, he's not
really that old, just like the rest of us. I took a movie clip
by mistake, and this image is all I could salvage.

We shared a Subway for lunch, and then this 160 Cherokee showed up
on its way to Illinois. Hey, I've been there...

This morning, the boys were hard at work on the building.

By this afternoon, the boys were done and gone home. Nice job! This thing dwarfs the mobile home. We should have a barn dance! Can we dance in the grass? Or we could count the triangles...

20 Aug., 2009 -- Progress

Thought y'all would be getting bored with this building,
but noooo. So here is this morning's pic. There are more
throughout the day... but this day is gone! So you'll have to wait.
Working on my old pc, struggling with Picasa (nothing so fine
as Photoshop, that I know how to use!) so you only get one pic.
I even have helicopter and airplane pics from West Plains! Stand by.

We may have a new wildlife situation at the airport... this morning
about a dozen of the 100 or so geese that roam the area were munching
on the new seeding right out from the ramp area. I drove out there "honking"
and they honked and flew away. About an hour later, "honk honk" and three
were back. So I drove out there again "honking" and off they went.
I bought an air horn from the boating dept., and will try that next time.
I hope there's not a next time.

18 Aug., 2009 -- Hangar raising

Ben helped the guys raise the trusses this morning. The skies were threatening, but it didn't ever bust loose with any rain. Reportedly, about four raindrops smacked down, and that was it.

Tomorrow they are raising a silo, then will be back on Thursday to put up the sheet metal.
1600 square feet of space... I wonder what we can put in there.... it's intended to be a hangar.

17 Aug., 2009 -- The sky's the thing

This morning... straw hats arrived, started work on the last posts, cross members.

Afternoon... rain brewing, thunder & lightning... tenth inch... 20 degrees cooler

Evening... spectacular colors, low clouds scudding... will be foggy in the morning.

I know, I know... it's not airport stuff, no flying... but, then, nobody, is, flying...
And yes, the posts are vertical... wide angle lens and I didn't edit the photo.

Ok, one airport picture. They finally gated and locked the township yard!

16 Aug., 2009 -- It ain't flying, but it is a "happening"

John and Ben moved the old beams and door frames from the airport ramp to a trailer, to be stored at home.

Turned the corner too sharp, and "pop" out went Ben's rear window.
Wasn't really a "pop", more of a "bam", like a gunshot.

Missed the sunset, had to go stock up on cat food.

15 Aug., 2009 -- Saturday, back to work at the airport

This morning, one night bloom was still awake! There were two blossoms overnight.

I found this fat fellow on the tomato plant. His three day feast was over, though.

Bill and Mark fueled up to go to West Memphis.

John came back from breakfast at Willow Springs. Wind gusts were picking up.

Ben and Zack tested the increasing gusty wind after Willow breakfast. They won.

Glasair in for fuel, from Texas to St. Louis. Keep an eye out, he might be back Sunday.

Back in the garden tonight...

This guy was a half an inch long last week... there must be SOMEthing to eat in that houseplant shelter.
Tonight, there are three night blooms open! And there are two more buds. Never had so many flowers on the plant before. I've been throwing rainwater at it all summer.
