1 July, 2011 -- Warming up

Before the day gets too hot, Diane warms up by trimming and thinning the iris beds in front of the old rock jail. Hmmm, why, you ask? Because it's the annual alumni July 4 weekend Mtn. Grove class reunion, and we're having a photo show, that's why!
The old rock jail is the History and Arts Center, and it's going to be on the National Register of Historic Places.
This is how it looked before we started hanging all the photos that were brought in today. Watch tomorrow for the update!
Cleaning, putting, moving; there are no cooking tools in that apron. Pliers, hammer, screw driver... Hey, Diane, ya got a pair of scissors? Well, of course!
Looks easy, doesn't it?
Well, it ain't. It was a 10 hour day.
Tomorrow is the parade, featuring the class of 1961, 50th year (my year, but in Colorado), and class of 1986, 25th year (for Fonda) in Mtn. Grove.

18 June, 2011 -- Father's Day

Remember these?
Now they are these.

Squawk and run! Keeping up with four little ones is a big job, and it takes Papa and Mama both to herd the babies back to the nest. It doesn't help any to have big old Grandpa interfering.

13 June, 2011 -- Summer

Back off, it's MY nest.

Come and get me!
Well, that didn't work, so...
Back off!!!

Samantha's projects at art camp, Murray, Kentucky.

Waiting for the ferry on the Kentucky side of the Mississippi River,
heading for Missouri after Sam's art camp.

Some sights along the way.

At the Tri-County Fair in Mtn. Grove, Samantha fell in love.

Slurp.

9 June, 2011 - Are we there yet?

Headed for Murray, KY to pick up granddaughter at summer camp.
Southeast of Sikeston, this is where the bootheel is glued to Missouri.
Usually planted in corn, it was flooded to save the town of Cairo, IL.

I thought of the Tin Man.
No, it wasn't a tornado.
Are we there yet?
A sign said, "road ends in water".
About every half hour. Or so.

That's the captain and Brandon the deck hand. It cost $14 to ride. Saved me about a hundred miles. $7 return ticket, no time limit.
Hickman, KY, the far side.
The old downtown is
protected by this huge levee. Well, almost protected.

The back side of the 1914 jail
is what drew me down the street into the old downtown area.
