30 July, 2009 -- Rainy day #3

RV6 enroute from OSH to TX, forced down by low clouds this morning.
They went to lunch while the sky cleared.

Clearing skies at sundown... incoming! Scott M in his rented 140.
Lookie, there's the moon! Blue sky!

29 July, 2009 -- July? It's July? JULY?

Texans heading for OSHkosh Airventure 2009. Gloomy weather but not raining yet.

Rain, cool, rain, cool... it's not really July. Well, only for a couple more days.

Rescue mission... I heard Smudge in the office, meowing & growling,
his way of warning "it's MINE, whatever it is, and whoever you are!"
"Sorry, Smudge, you can't keep it".

Meanwhile, Briggs was stalking three grown bunnies up at Ben's hangar.
Just watching...
I saw him lurking in the grass as I went to the mailbox.

Hmmm, I need a piece of red sheet metal to fix the flag on the mailbox...
and while I was at the mailbox, in flew this shiny red piece of sheet metal...
It's exactly the right color! And the timing is impeccable! (No, I didn't.)

Tonight the thunderstorms are training through the area... rain heavy, then not, then lightning & thunder, then a little rain, then a lot... following 60 hwy, unusual. But I have this huge roof overhanging the Suburban... and a huge roof over the hangar and the two Cherokees... so let it rain!

28 July, 2009 -- OSH traffic on the way home already

Heading for Houston, TX. Nice RV6 came in this morning, fog was
lifting, but not as much as I would have liked.

The sky progressed to clear, then the little thunderstorms moved
back in for the afternoon.

27 July, 2009 -- I found it

Tomato hornworm, hiding in the depths, nibbling away.

Pflatt-girl showed up this afternoon, begging for a cat-food snack.
She ate a few pieces, then lumbered off to hide in the wet grass.
What a life, free food, camping out every night; we could be at OSHkosh camping out...

Of course, it could be raining on our campground... as it is doing at OSH.

26 July, 2009 -- Skipper, not the airplane

Variety of butterfly, SACHEM, member of the skippers. Common in summer and fall.
Atalopedes campestris huron. Remember that.

Still no OSHkosh traffic... Airventure 2009 begins tomorrow, Monday, so I probably won't see any planes until the end of the week, when folks start heading home. Saw on the radar that Wisconsin was having rain all day, so that may have something to do with light traffic. A few planes went over in that direction, but nobody stopped to see me.
John went joyriding to Marshall, this morning. Then Bill & Laurie took off for home in Michigan. Spectacular day to be flying!

25 July, 2009 -- Katydid didn't, but the kitties did... ow ow ow ow

Ow, ow ow ow owwwww ow

Raining this morning, so the kitties were milling around in the hangar. I had been tormenting Briggs by tickling his belly, he had been swatting back at me. Then he spotted black Bitty, and he abandoned me to give her a couple of swipes, bap slap smack... and the war was ON!

Foraging for tomatoes and green beans for my supper, I spotted this tomato plant that has been chewed. I know the katydid didn't do it. I'll find the tobacco hornworm in the morning, maybe.
And, it isn't a katydid, it's a praying mantis. But the "mantis didn't do it, but the kitties did" doesn't make as good a headline.

Went across the road to feed Roy's kitties while they (Roy & Loretta, not the kitties) are in OK, and this flower got in my way, so I shot it.

24 July, 2009 -- Not Oshkosh traffic, yet

Just locals. Scott M rented the 140 Cherokee at Bolivar. Newt in the Cessna 172 was giving his grandson Nate a ride, and Mac fueled up his Bonanza for a trip to OSH (both Mansfield based). The drag race car is a beauty!

The city sent out a brush-hog to trim the new seeding along the runway. Tim got the east end finished, and made a couple of passes along the south side.

The day was a beauty! That's the only cloud, it appeared late in the day. And the sun just seemed to melt out of that cloud, or was it a space ship...

And then I went back outside later ...

It ain't over 'til it's over...

22 July, 2009 -- That was then, this is now (or, this afternoon)

Fog, drizzle... heading out for Marshall this morning.

At Marshall, who???? Yes, it's Line Boy Lloyd, complete with white straw hat! His ears were getting sunburned, wearing his usual ball cap.

That's the new pilot, Roland from St. Louis area, flying the Ag Truck. Randy was in and out with the Ag Husky, but I didn't get his picture.
