12 Feb., 2010 -- In the fog and snow...

These guys are practicing, they land and sit on the runway for a few minutes.
Sometimes they make a few go-rounds in the pattern.
Today, just one landing, and then they disappeared into the snow and mist.

10 Feb., 2010 -- Flying things... some do, some don't

The doves belly up to the banquet table.

I can fly! Really, in this 36 mph wind, I can fly!

Yeah, me too... I can fly! Look, a runway (almost) without snow!

Well, that didn't work so well.

I'll try a drift, launch over the revetment, never mind the tailwind.

Well, that didn't work so well, either.

Maybe I'll just go ice dancing. Olympics material?

8 Feb., 2010 -- Fighting the elements

Snoopy checks the gps coordinates and zooms out to survey for a likely spot to hide a geocache. We hid our first two caches today, in the snowing and blowing. I did the online registration this evening. They have to be okayed by the reviewer, then they will be published and treasurer hunters can start looking, and trading the goodies.

4 Feb., 2010 -- Snoopy goes skiing!

Snoopy takes a short lesson on cross country skis today. Conditions were tough, as it was raining, sleeting, snowing, very crusty and heavy.

After dual for a few yards across the yard, Snoop-dogg decides he will try it solo.
I can! I can do it! I really can do this! I can make these things FLY!

Aargh.
They are SO narrow.
Well, another day. Balance, balance. And then, a hill!
Thanks to Theresa and Mike for the skis and boots.
This was a most exciting adventure for the instructor.
It's been about 12 years, and I was a kid in the candy shop!

Started at the bottom, flung himself to the railing. Jogged to the top.
Finally MINE! He did share with the red boy.

1 February, 2010 -- So, move over, big red!

MINE.

No, MINE.

Move it, big red boy!!!

I thought the cardinals were the ones scooting all the seed out on the ground.
Nope, it's those little sparrows, flinging it everywhere. I don't know what particular seed that little guy was after, but he sprayed seeds about three feet to get what he wanted.

30 Jan., 2010 -- Perfect Day for an Air Show!

Snoopy searches for a perfect runway. It's not easy being a star.

Snoop takes a tow to the runway. How humiliating!

However... Snoop soon takes to the air in a spectacular show of skill, daring and heart-thumping excitement!

Uh Oh.

But the Air Boss announces "He's OK, folks!
And the crowd goes wild with cheering for their Snoop-Hero!

The decorations were elaborate, the beverages were refreshing,

The meal (frog legs and sunflower seeds) was sumptuous.

What a day!

27 Jan., 2010 -- Ring around the moon

There was a rainbow around the moon tonight,
I just couldn't capture all the color. Ice crystals
in the air... forecast is for sleet tomorrow.

Yesterday, there was sunshine in Oklahoma, and sunshine here! Made one trip out and back,
fighting fierce headwinds, but I made the first nibble of 10 on the project of 55 mine sites in Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas.
Bleak landscapes in the wintertime, but they do make interesting patterns.
I like those big evil spider-like cranes!

These mines are reclaimed after all the digging and scraping, and lots of them become wildlife habitat, or pasture, usually better land than before they were mined. It has been an interesting project seeing the progress of these mines, as I've been photographing some of them two or three times a year for about 10 years.
