26 March, 2012 -- First Dogwood and more

First Dogwood!
Looks like this grand dogwood is fading away, leaves are shriveling up and the blossoms are small. I have seen this one with huge beautiful pink blossoms, so I was disappointed when I hunted it up for this season's portrait out at the Cedar Center in Mountain Grove.
But nearby, Old Glory was just... glorious!

More firsts?
Tiny flowers, first sign of spring, in the woods near Jefferson City, found while geocaching with Cam yesterday.
First bullfrog! I know this is the first one, 'cause you won't have one in Iowa or Colorado yet; haha. He's just come out of hibernation, and didn't even try to get away when I sneaked up on him, must still be cold and sluggish. The pond is rising with the 5 inches of rain last week. Maybe I'll go fishing tomorrow... and then I'll get the First Fish!

24 March, 2012 -- Caching with the Kid

While the grownups are away, the kids will play...
This is called "light bushwhacking"
This was a simple one to find...

Cam liked the golden bling!
We'll make a travel bug out of this one, a $5 chip on a keychain. We'll hide it in another cache: we are working on two puzzle caches that have us "stumped" big time; one in Jeff City, one in Columbia.

17 March, 2012 -- Firsts - and other challenges

The challenge is out... find the season's firsts: I WIN!
The first airplane!
Wright Flyer replica, hanging in the Springfield, MO airport. The guys in our EAA Chapter in Willow Springs built it, flew it, took it apart and reassembled it (twice).
First bugs: ants on the sidewalks of Las Vegas.

First ladybug
First bloom found in Las Vegas.

Long, but very narrow.
Springfield to Dallas, then to Las Vegas on a 757, just a tad bigger.

When in Vegas, do as Vegasns do.
Everything's looking good... and then...
I lost 5 so fast, I quit.
Sorry, donations not refunded.

My sis Caro bought an Ipad, last year's model. While she was haggling with her Capital One card company, the Pillagers showed up! What's in your wallet? (We were all relieved that he didn't come inside.)

Cuz Jody almost bought a new hammer. We always go heavy duty shopping!
Gerry and Caro spent a day getting the Ipad set up, between card games. Since there were mobs of St. Pat's celebrations happening down on the Strip, we just did our gambling at home. Cheapies.
The mob at Jody's Palace of Delights in Las Vegas: chocolates, caramels, bbq... complete with guard dog Yuma, who delighted in stirring up every other critter on our walks through the neighborhood.
This beastie carried me home Sunday, 5 hour trip to Atlanta; 7 people wide, and I got the widest person on the plane with a squirmy 2 year old in her lap. Atlanta to Springfield on a 4-wide was much more comfy. Jet lag? whazzzat?

March 5, 2012 -- Floaters and other strange things

Admiring the floating
clouds and wind-blown leaves at the pond, almost sunset ...
And along came...
Who's-it?
Could be Mr. Peabody from Rocky and Bullwinkle Show, but doesn't have glasses or a nose.
Could be Brian, from Family Guy, but no martini
Could be Blue, from Blues Clues, but not the right color
Could be Scooby Doo, naaa
Could be Snoopy, from Peanuts. Yep, that's it, it's Snoopy!

Then sunset came floating by...

Inside, in a sunny west window...
Sprouted some lemon seeds salvaged from a lemon (where else would I get lemon seeds. They came in a glass of water at a restaurant. Watch for that... me fishing in the bottom of a water glass for those elusive seeds. Buy house plants? Naaa).
Ever see an albino tree? I hope it keeps growing. For some strange reason, it doesn't seem to have any chlorophyl to make it green. Have many other grapefruit and orange seeds sprouted and growing, this is the first albino!
(Ooops, my bad, wrong pot. This is actually an orange tree. Oh, well, I do fish seeds out of water glasses for sprouting into house plants.)

Found a daffodil this afternoon! It's spring!!

23 Feb., 2012 -- The Dance

Ready?
Dance!
No, not line dancing. You just had to be there. Me, Joyce and Gail.
These are stills from a cell phone video clip, taken at the bowling
alley during our morning league on Thursday, (thanks, TracyD)
