19 Jan., 2012 -- One small step... then a thousand

We got in through the back door.
This is our room at Cox Orthopedic Center, third set of windows on the right. It's like a hotel, with meals ordered from the menu. But: automatic wake-up calls beginning at 3 a.m., 5 a.m., three daily sessions at the gym, free stuff (rubber gloves, hand sanitizer, tv, panoramic vista of the parking lot).
As much as we like it here, we'll be home tomorrow afternoon. Another small step...

7 January, 2012 -- Dashaway all

Hazy ring around the moon. I guess our clear sunny days are over. I was walking the cats, then they disappeared. A deer dashed through the pasture nearby, then dashed back to the other end of the 10 acres, with a bitsy little black dog chasing it and yapping. Dog wasn't much bigger than the cats, but they saw it and did their own dash back to the house and guarded the door. Cats, deer and dog were dashing too fast to get a picture. Only the moon was moving slow enough.

Yesterday. It was just that kind of day. That sweet spot when the wheels lose the runway!

18 Dec., 2011 -- Gone, gone

Bald eagle cruising
around Mtn. Grove today, didn't come close enough for a good portrait before it was gone.
I cruised around eastern Kansas and northern Oklahoma for two beautiful days
shooting pictures of quarries and such, but the good clear days are gone again.
Deer in the headlights. Only 3 of them.

2 Dec., 2011 -- Sort of a "what's-it"?

That's right! You win it! Come and get it!

I found it in the back of the garage, bent around some objects.
Was surprised that it didn't fall apart when I picked it up.
It's about five feet long, and it won't hurt ya.
Besides, it's (was) a blacksnake. I guess that's why
we don't have many mice in the garage. I hope it's still around!
